Bay Middle School Rake Out 2019!
Bay Middle School students, with parent and staff volunteers, raked more than 150 homes of elderly and disabled Bay residents. It is a wonderful way to give back to our community! Special thanks to the coordinator, 7th-grade Town Council advisor Mr. Fitchpatrick, and to the Dwyer Senior Center for collecting requests from qualifying residents.

KINDNESS IS IMPORTANT AT NORMANDY
Second-grader Garett Hyland wins grant for kindness projects

Normandy Elementary now has a “Kindness Corner.”  With the help of his mom, Garett Hyland applied for and was awarded a $75 B.E.E. Kind Grant through Senders’ Pediatrics. The purpose of the grant was to fund simple projects that promote kindness and empower children to see how they can make a positive difference in the world with just one simple act of kindness! After discussing possible ideas, Garett chose to create a special area for staff and students. His goal was to purchase and display books about kindness for everyone to read, materials needed to leave uplifting messages, and Random Acts of Kindness calendar handouts for students to complete each month. Garett combined his project with the Kindness Snack Cart donated by the Hensel family and now hopes others will join them in spreading kindness.

Bay Schools honor our veterans
All of our schools do an amazing job of thanking our veterans on Veterans Day. Students write letters, bring in photos and stories of their veteran family members, and invite veterans to speak to students. Normandy Elementary holds an assembly and a parade, and this year's event was especially successful with more than 70 veterans in attendance! Read more about that wonderful day HERE.

Students work with Sandy Hook Promise
Bay Middle School and Bay High School students attended a training with the national Sandy Hook Promise Foundation on how to promote the "Say Something" and "Start With Hello" culture of sharing information that can keep everyone safe and get help for those who need it. Jana Biery Goots, Bay Family Services Intervention Consultant at Bay High, accompanied the students to the training at Strongsville Middle School.

The Sandy Hook Promise Foundation is partnering with the Ohio Department of Education to help train students, educators and administrators in their preventative safety programs and methodologies which are based on research conducted by the Department of Homeland Security.
