One School One Book at Normandy Elementary

One School One Book at Normandy Elementary launched this month, and the chosen book is Gooseberry Park by Cynthia Rylant! You can watch the exciting Big Reveal by Principal Dan Sebring HERE.

The book is now being read simultaneously by students, teachers, parents, bus drivers, custodians, business people and many others throughout our community. The K-2 students are so excited! Read the book and strike up a conversation about it!

Bay Middle School students win top honors in 20-school competition

Home of the Rockets closer to goal

Home of the Rockets team is making significant progress toward their goal of raising $1.6 million for the planned construction of a new building at the stadium that will house two team rooms, a new concession stand, restrooms and more. Home of the Rockets presented a check for their first installment of $350,000 to our Board of Education on Monday. The account with the board now holds $750,000, including a board contribution of $400,000. Home of the Rockets also has more than a quarter of a million dollars in pledges lined up. Home of the Rockets is a 501(c)3 organization that raises money and provides other assistance for construction, renovation, or other improvements to facilities in the Bay Village city school district. Donations are tax deductible. All Home of the Rockets donors will receive confirmation of their donation for tax filing purposes.

Superintendent Jodie Houseman interviewed Jon Ransom, a lead fundraiser for Home of the Rockets, for this podcast. Very interesting details about why our students and community will benefit so much from this capital addition to our district!

Bay High earns Ohio's Momentum Award
Congratulations to our students, staff and administration of Bay High School on their Momentum Award from the State Board of Education. The award recognizes schools for exceeding expectations in student academic growth for the year. Schools must earn straight A’s on all Value-Added measures on the report card. The school or district must have at least two Value-Added subgroups of students, which includes gifted, lowest 20% in achievement, and students with disabilities. BHSMomentumAward

Bay High hosts Great Lakes Conference Honors Band and Choir
Bay Village High School hosted the Great Lakes Conference's Honors Band and Choir Event on Monday, February 10. The schools in the GLC include: Bay, Elyria Catholic, Holy Name, Normandy, Parma Senior, Rocky River and Valley Forge.  
 
Each school selects their top musicians and come together for a one-day event. Dr. Gary Ciepluch, Associate Professor Emeritus at Case Western Reserve University, was invited to directed the band and Dr. Brian Bailey, Director of Choirs at Cleveland State University, directed the choirs.
 
 
The entire day included learning and putting together a program that was then performed for the public that evering.

Sharing mindfulness techniques with senior citizens
MindfulnessAtDwyerCenter

Normandy Elementary and Westerly Elementary students are practicing mindfulness techniques during the school day to help with negative feelings, like anxiety. Here they visit Dwyer Memorial Senior Center (Wed. Feb. 5) to share their practices with senior citizens. Thank you Normandy Elementary counselor Megan Basel and students Patrick Gauntner, Madeline Newman and Caroline Scanlan; and Westerly Elementary counselor Anna Stockfish and students Iris Hunt, Brenden Marriott, Sydney Maybaum and Allie Pistorino.
