Dear Visitor:

Welcome to our Bay Village City School District. We are proud of our students and their achievements in every area -- academics, art, music, leadership and so much more.

Our dedicated educators, our committed support staff, our involved parents and a community that provides steady support for high-quality education relish the rewards of watching our children grow and thrive.

Academic achievement is, of course, our primary focus. Test scores are important diagnostic tools to assess student progress. Our district’s performance on the Ohio Report Card consistently ranks in the top 5-6% of all districts in the state. The report card’s growth measures also demonstrate that our students at every subgroup level exceed expected progress from year to year.

Our average scores for national and state SAT, ACT and AP tests (see Student Achievement) remain above state and national averages. About 90% of our Bay High students attend college after graduation, with many attending some of the most selective colleges and universities in the country. Others leave high school with vocational skills that qualify them for work or further study in a dedicated training program.

Beyond academics, our focus on the “whole child” brings the necessary balance to the school day so all children can explore a range of talents and interests. Whether investigating technology, global cultures, drama, environmental issues or debate, or even diving deeper into school topics like writing or science, there is an opportunity to pursue a passion with our co-curricular programs.

In addition to our plans for the physical side of school safety, we include support for student mental, emotional and social health through staff training and programs that teach students important self-management skills.

We take great pride in being named to the Best Music Education Community in America list since 2003 for our outstanding music program. We celebrate our student artists as they annually win accolades in local, regional and national art competitions. In fact, our Bay High students just won 50 Regional and two National Scholastics Art & Writing awards!

You will read stories each year about our students raising thousands of dollars, and providing countless volunteer hours, in efforts to help people in need. Whether raising funds to cure diseases, collecting items for low-income families, or providing labor for great local causes, our students demonstrate, both through student-led initiatives and through activities like Key Club, an empathy for others that is simply heartwarming.

Our hometown pride shines the brightest when our marching band leads our homecoming parade through the center of town each fall. The numbers of student, alumni and community groups get bigger every year as there seems to be as many participants in the parade as there are observers along a packed Wolf Road! Rockets Football kicks off our athletics seasons with students, staff, friends and community members packing the stands. More than 50 athletic teams, including middle school, freshmen, junior varsity and varsity levels, provide maximum opportunity for our students to enjoy the healthy physical activity and lessons in character, discipline and school pride that students derive from these competitions.

As I watch our youngsters explore their community by riding bikes throughout sidewalk-lined streets, meeting friends at the beach or coffee shop, or just enjoying a day in our beautiful parks and playgrounds, I realize how fortunate we are to live in a community that supports its schools, its children and us all.

As I begin my first year as the Superintendent of the Bay Village Schools, these are just some of the highlights I am learning about this wonderful school district and community. I am honored to serve you and I know that, working together, we will continue to insure our students leave us with the knowledge, skills, experiences and friendships that provide the foundation for a happy and successful future.

Sincerely,

Jodie Hausmann, Superintendent
