Supt. Hausmann Parent Update 10/10/18

Dear Parents/Guardians:

Please join us at our Community Meeting on School Safety on Thursday, October 18, from 7-9 p.m. at the Bay High School auditorium.

I will be moderating and presenting a lineup of speakers on various topics about how the district is addressing school safety. Bay Village Mayor Paul Koomar and Police Chief Mark Spaetzel will speak about school/city safety collaborations. See THIS FLYER for more information about the speakers and their topics. There will be time for your questions at the end of the program.

A most important component of our integrated safety plan is mental health and wellness. We have a number of excellent programs in place already that help promote students deal with issues like anxiety and life challenges. We are fortunate to have a talented staff of school counselors and psychologists who serve our students. We also have a network of social services that are available to us -- both Bay Family Services and the Cuyahoga County Project AWARE program can help guide us to the appropriate help.

We are learning more all the time about the important role of mental health and wellness management in education. I am pleased to tell you that we have a full plan this year of some of the best, evidence-based professional development for all staff members to help our students deal with mental and emotional health issues and to maintain a school climate of kindness and support.

I hope to see you at the Thursday, October 18 Community Meeting on School Safety where you will learn about our established program and new initiatives to support the safety and security of our students. In addition, I will be using this update throughout the year to examine in greater detail a variety of school safety topics.

And starting tomorrow, please be sure to enjoy Bay High School's fall play, "Peter Pan and Wendy" performing Thursday and Saturday!
