Dear Parents/Guardians:
As
we approach the end of 2018, I must share with you the joy your
children have brought me during my first semester with the Bay Village
Schools. The magic for me has been watching their pure exuberance as
they work together.
The most obvious examples are the many
wonderful public performances we can all enjoy. Whether part of an
athletic team, an instrumental group or a choir, each individual clearly
does his or her best to perform. Then they learn that by playing their
own roles and supporting others, they become something bigger than
themselves.
I see this cooperation in classrooms as students
work in small groups. I see collaboration in clubs as students band
together to achieve a big goal, often one of helping those less
fortunate. I experience the synergy that happens when I interview a
group of students for one of my podcasts and watch them build these
conversations by supporting and elaborating on what others in the group
relate.
Yesterday, I was honored to play a role in a Bay High
orchestra concert. Honored, but humbled! Those young musicians
demonstrate such talent and skill, reading their music, following their
director, and carefully listening to the tempo and melodies performed by
others. On top of that, they were patient with me. Sophomore Thomas
Beckwith tutored me in my small part (playing a piece on my iPhone), and
Director Carrie Singler broke down the skills needed for this
non-reader of music to succeed. What a treat for me to be part of a
high-quality orchestra for one music selection!
Our children are
reflections of a community that cares. Neighbors who help each other.
Teachers who step in with an encouraging word. Principals who know each
student’s name. Staff members who make sure children are taken care of
in so many ways.
But most of all, these children are a
reflection of you. Mothers, fathers, grandparents, faith leaders and
others in our community who provide the guidance and opportunities that
insure our children thrive in the Bay Village Schools.
I thank
you all for welcoming me and my family to Bay Village, a community that
truly cares. And I wish you a wonderful holiday season and a very happy
new year!
Best,
Mrs. Hausmann
