Dear Parents/Guardians:
Traffic patterns are changing in town due to construction:
As
you may have heard, Bay Village will be experiencing quite a bit of
road construction over the coming months. The one that will immediately
affect our schools is the closing of Lake Road between Cahoon and Dover
Center Roads for bridge foundation replacement, detouring traffic onto
Wolf Road.
Our middle school is changing parent drop off patterns starting Monday, April 1,
to accommodate this increase in traffic near their building. If you
have a middle school child and drive them to school, please follow the instructions
being sent to you by Principal McAndrews and DO NOT USE WEST OAKLAND
for dropping off or picking up your students, or for parking, as this
area will be reserved for buses. If your child is eligible for bus
transportation, please use it instead of driving.
Assistant
Principal Tom Grodek is working with the City of Bay Village on a Safe
Routes to School project to review the safety of all our walkers and bicycle riders at every building.
As there will be other road closings and paving work done throughout
our town, we will be working closely with city officials to insure our
students all have safe routes to school. You can find more information
about upcoming construction in Mayor Paul Koomar's newsletter.
National recognition for our music education:
On
another note, I am so pleased to share that our Bay Village Schools
have once again been named to the prestigious Best Music Education
Communities list. Having just enjoyed our multi-grade, district choir
concert and our pit orchestra performance at Bay High's Addams Family
performance, I know the level of musical talent in our district is
exceptional. The national recognition is important because our community
should know about this high-quality aspect of our schools.
We
are learning more and more all the time about how music addresses a
myriad of cognitive and social skills, and that children who are exposed
to music education are far more likely to experience life-long academic
success. In addition, studies show that music education lays the
foundation for individual excellence in group settings and in creative
problem solving, as well as in learning how to give and receive
constructive criticism to excel. And as our recently-named National
Merit Finalist, Bay High senior Amelia Johnson pointed out, music training teaches one discipline and the "grit" to keep working hard toward mastery. Kudos to all our staff, parents, students and community members who give so much of themselves to support our music program.
And a special thank you to our wonderful music faculty membersDarren
Allen (Bay High instrumental), Mark Awad (Bay Middle instrumental), Dr.
E. James Kotora (Normandy music), Elaine Dwyer (Westerly music), Carrie
Engelbrecht (Westerly music), Devon Gess (Bay High vocal), Heidi Herczeg
(Bay Middle vocal), Jeffrey Schimelpfenig (Westerly strings), and
Carrie Singler (Bay High instrumental).Read more HERE.
As
we enter this busy home stretch (Go Indians!) toward spring break,
consider taking a break yourselves and enjoy a night out, and a fun
night for the kids, by taking advantage of Bay High's Class of 2020 Babysitting Night on Saturday, April 13!
Best,
Mrs. Hausmann |
