Dear Parents/Guardians:

Welcome Board of Education member, David Vegh!
I am very excited to introduce our new Board of Education member, Dave Vegh. Dave has a daughter at Normandy Elementary and two younger girls, one entering Glenview next year. He led a wonderful effort as president and board member of a nonprofit that worked to provide school supplies to low income students in Cleveland, and he is a sales director with Hyland Software. He brings great experience to our Board! Read more about Dave at:

Thank you PTA Council and Bay Village Kiwanis
for hosting SCREENAGERS, Thursday, May 16,
7 p.m. at Bay High Auditorium

Our children benefit so much from new digital technologies that expand previous access to educational information and for communication. But like all of us, limits are important so that we hold onto personal, face-to-face connections and physical resources for learning and in our social lives. Join me in watching this video about setting those limits. We will be joined by school counselors Megan Basel and Anna Stockfish, Curriculum Director Char Shryock and BVPD Detective Edward Chapman for a panel discussion afterwards.

Screenagers
Free viewing. Children 10+ are welcome with a parent.

Abigail Donahue provides classroom first aid kits
Bay High sophomore Abigail Donahue put together classroom first aid kits for teachers so that band aids and other supplies are readily available for minor cuts, etc. Students can then save a trip to the school clinic when not necessary. This was a project for Abbey's Girl Scout Gold Award. Nice job, Abbey!

Bowling with Westerly kiddos!

It was so fun for me to take a break and go bowling with Mrs. Woodburn's and Mrs. Poretsky's classes on May 9. . Had a great time with students and staff - so nice to meet the owner Mark Nazario, too!

Enjoy these busy, end-of-school-year days and weeks. So many wonderful memories are being made right now, so let's practice our own mindfulness skills and enjoy them thoroughly! (And listen to my podcast below on how Normandy Elementary educators are teaching mindfulness to our youngest students.)

Best,

Mrs. Hausmann

Superintendent Jodie Hausmann interviews Normandy Elementary teachers Julie Hack (grade 1), Brittany Jobanputra and Emily Sorber (both Kindergarten) and Megan Basel (school counselor) to discuss how they practice Mindfulness with Normandy Elementary students.

Hear how young students are responding to purposeful Movement (like "Sundance," "7 Shakes" and "Go Noodle"); to Listening; to Breathing (like "Elephant Breaths"); and to learning about how the brain works with emotion. They all help to empower children.
