Dear Parents/Guardians,
There
are moments in life when an event plays in slow motion because it
leaves an imprint on your brain. I have a Thanksgiving memory like that
-- it was the ONE year our family ate turkey.
My
grandparents did not raise turkeys on their farm, only chickens.
Thanksgiving was a blend of Sicilian food with chicken and all the
fixings. So I recall my surprise when, upon arriving at the "Point View"
farm, I saw a turkey round the corner of the farmhouse. As I
contemplated a turkey dinner for a change, that bird started speeding
right toward me.
I
ran pretty fast as a kid, but I met my match that day. It took a jump
from the path to the porch to avoid an attack -- by our family's planned
main course.
Lesson of the story: Stay safe, and watch out for turkeys!!
All
of our schools do an amazing job of thanking our veterans on Veterans
Day. Students write letters, bring in photos and stories of their
veteran family members, and invite veterans to speak to students.
Normandy Elementary holds an assembly and a parade, and this year's
event was especially successful with more than 70 veterans in
attendance! Read more about that wonderful day HERE.

As your superintendent, I am grateful for:
 |
our students whom I have had an opportunity to get to know through my podcast interviews (here's a new one
with our senior boys soccer players) and Superintendent's Student
Advisory Council, as well as other opportunities to see them perform in
the fine arts, athletics and extracurriculars. I have faith in them to
take care of our future; |
 |
each staff member, because of their dedication to their work — the creativity, hard work, love and pride in the job they do for our children; |
 |
our Board of Education members, who serve so many hours only because they want nothing but the best for our students; |
 |
our community members,
who support our students in so many ways, whether through an
organization like Kiwanis or the Bay Education Foundation, or just being
there when we need them; |
 |
our parents,
because so many of you work through organizations like PTA, Bay Music
Boosters, or Rockets Association to offer wonderful programs and
financial support for all our children; |
 |
but most importantly, our parents as they support of our teachers and schools each day by making
sure our children do their homework, arrive on time, and respect their
teachers and principals -- key factors in getting a good education. |
My family and I wish you and yours a happy and blessed Thanksgiving!
