Dear Parents/Guardians —
The protests for racial justice going on in our country have led to serious discussion among our administrators, teacher leaders and board members. The tragic death of Mr. George Floyd, as well as other related incidents, can serve as a catalyst for conversation and continuous improvement in education surrounding equity and equality for all.
We as a district pride ourselves on emphasizing kindness and inclusivity in our social/emotional learning goals. Still, we are always striving to do better.
We intend to use our district Strategic Planning Process, as well as our Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support process, as frameworks to delve deeper into societal bias issues like racism, gender bias, ageism and discrimination due to sexual orientation, disabilities, and other differences.
Using these engagement strategies, we can work with police, parents, students and community members to ensure our students understand how a world where everyone feels safe and accepted benefits us all. Please know that we will continue to work with you in building a peaceful future for all our children.
Sincerely,
Jodie Hausmann, Superintendent
