Supt. Holiday Message 12/22/20

December 22, 2020

Dear Families,

Many years ago as an elementary school principal, one of my most dedicated teachers came to my office and shared that a new family was in need during the holiday season. She explained that she went to their home to give them a Christmas tree for the upcoming holiday, and when she walked in, she was surprised by how little the family had. Our generous staff came together and donated food to fill their refrigerator, and worked with the local church to deliver beds for the children and a comfy couch for their living room. We were proud of our accomplishment and happy to make a difference in their lives.

What we didn’t appreciate, however, was this family already had so much. We looked at their situation through a different lens, focusing on what we thought was missing, versus what was already present.

There was love and joy in the home;

the children were well cared for;

a single mother worked two jobs to provide for her family;

the little girls were always protected by their big brother;

and, the family’s kindness toward others was sincere and heartwarming.

As I prepare for this holiday, I am reminded it’s not about what I don’t have, but all that I do. I encourage you and your loved ones to see your family’s many gifts, and know that hope is shining bright in our lives. We are one month closer, one week closer, one day closer to the pandemic ending. When we look back on the year 2020, let us remember the moments that strengthened our spirits: increased family time, delicious homemade meals and the beautiful sound of children playing outside.

Unfortunately, our One Rocket Nation and the larger Bay Village community have experienced the loss of loved ones during the pandemic. Some have even lost multiple loved ones these last few months. May we keep all our community members especially close in our thoughts and prayers.

My wish for you and your family this holiday season is that you experience joy, peace and hope, and find inspiration for the new year.

Sincerely,

Jodie Hausmann, Superintendent

P.S. I’d like to share with you our Virtual Carolers Compilation, and our  Bay High and Bay Middle School YouTube channels, so you and your family can listen to some amazing holiday music as you celebrate the season!
